After interviewing 6 other contractors to redo our entire back yard and waterproof our foundation we decided to work with Adeel from Hertz Builders. Adeel came in with a fair and realistic price which allowed us to stay within budget while getting beautiful results. The scope of our project was large and included: waterproofing the foundation, demo of patio sized concrete slab and old wood and chain-link fence, installing a patio of pavers, installing a dry-well, installing a center of the yard gravel (instead of grass) area, and perimeter planting beds according to our plan.
Adeel went the extra mile to bring over samples of pavers and gravel for us, explained how he does waterproofing and dry well installation, and made us feel confident that the work he was doing was the right way to do it.
We ran into some issues with weather holding up the job but Adeel worked around it. He coordinated with our fencing contractor and was able to work with him to get the fence installed in tandem with the rest of the yard.
We ended up having some surprises such as an additional concrete ledge under the surface and tree roots that ran much deeper than anticipated. Adeel took care of all this without complaining or up-charging. He even sought out a special pink/brown stone to line our planting beds.
I am an extremely detailed person and Adeel corrected everything I noticed right away. For example, there was a small spot on the patio where the water pooled after rain. Adeel redid this section with no issue. He made sure everything was slanted properly away from the house to prevent water infiltration and even sealed/repaired some spots in the concrete on my neighbor's side to prevent water from entering. He also installed concrete on her side to keep my patio from sliding down as her yard is lower. We had some issues with figuring out the height and width of the planting beds and Adeel took the time to show me the various options and sizes by moving the bricks for me to see it visually.
Adeel was readily available on the phone and I'm sure I drove him crazy with questions. I'd say he has the best communication skills of any contractor I've hired. He's friendly and easy to work with and follows through with what you agree on. His crew members are respectful and hard working.
I'm writing this review six plus months later and I can say we are thrilled with the results. We were able to use the yard all summer and consider it our extra living room. I highly recommend Hertz and have referred Adeel and his company to other friends.
